The Prophet's Ascent
Signs in the prophet’s ascent journey to the kingdom of heaven and earth
In the name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful
017.001 Glory be to Him Who made His servant go on a night from the Sacred Mosque to Al Aqsa mosque whose precincts We did bless, in order to show him of Our signs; surely He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
006.075 And thus did We show Ibrahim the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and that he might be of those who have certitude.
017.060 And when We said to you: Surely your Lord has encompassed men; and We did not make the vision which We showed you but a trial for men and the cursed tree in the Quran; and We cause them to fear, but it only adds to their great inordinacy.
Narrated Ibn Abbas: Regarding: 'And We granted the vision (Ascension to the Heaven "Miraj") which We showed you (O Muhammad as an actual eye witness) but as a trial for mankind.' (17.60) It was an actual eye-witness which was shown to Allah's Apostle during the night he was taken on a journey (through the heavens). And the cursed tree is the tree of Az-Zaqqum (a bitter pungent tree which grows at the bottom of Hell). (Book #60, Hadith #240)
In the name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful
An-Najm (The Star)
053.001 By the Star when it goes down.
053.002 Your companion neither erred, nor did he go astray.
053.003 Nor does he speak out of desire.
053.004 It is naught but revelation that is revealed.
053.005 Was taught by one Mighty in Power.
053.006 Endued with strength; so he appeared.
053.007 While he was in the uppermost horizon.
053.008 Then he drew near and came down.
053.009 So he was the measure of two bows or nearer.
053.010 So He revealed to His servant what He revealed.
053.011 The heart lied not what he saw.
053.012 Will you then dispute with him concerning what he sees?
053.013 And certainly he saw him in another descent.
053.014 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary.
053.015 Near which is the garden of the Abode.
053.016 When the Lote-tree was shrouded in what enshrouds.
053.017 The sight did not turn aside, nor was it overbold.
053.018 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord.
Al Takweer (The Folding Up)
081.019 Most surely it is the Word of an honorable messenger.
081.020 The processor of strength, having an established place with the Lord of the Throne.
081.021 One obeyed, and then trustworthy.
081.022 And your companion is not mad.
081.023 And surely he saw him in the clear horizon.
081.024 Nor is he a withholder of the unseen.
Hadith on the night journey of the prophet peace be upon him
Narrated Malik bin Sasaa: The Prophet said, "While I was at the House in a state midway between sleep and wakefulness, (an angel recognized me) as the man lying between two men. A golden tray full of wisdom and belief was brought to me and my body was cut open from the throat to the lower part of the abdomen and then my abdomen was washed with Zam-zam water and (my heart was) filled with wisdom and belief. Al-Buraq, a white animal, smaller than a mule and bigger than a donkey was brought to me and I set out with Gabriel. When I reached the nearest heaven. Gabriel said to the heaven gate-keeper, 'Open the gate.' The gatekeeper asked, 'Who is it?' He said, 'Gabriel.' The gate-keeper,' Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel said, 'Muhammad.' The gate-keeper said, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel said, 'Yes.' Then it was said, 'He is welcomed. What a wonderful visit his is!' Then I met Adam and greeted him and he said, 'You are welcomed O son and a Prophet.' Then we ascended to the second heaven. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel said, 'Gabriel.' It was said, 'Who is with you?' He said, 'Muhammad' It was asked, 'Has he been sent for?' He said, 'Yes.' It was said, 'He is welcomed. What a wonderful visit his is!" Then I met Jesus and Yahya (John) who said, 'You are welcomed, O brother and a Prophet.' Then we ascended to the third heaven. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel said, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is with you? Gabriel said, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been sent for?' 'Yes,' said Gabriel. 'He is welcomed. What a wonderful visit his is!' (The Prophet added:). There I met Joseph and greeted him, and he replied, 'You are welcomed, O brother and a Prophet!' Then we ascended to the 4th heaven and again the same questions and answers were exchanged as in the previous heavens. There I met Idris and greeted him. He said, 'You are welcomed O brother and Prophet.' Then we ascended to the 5th heaven and again the same questions and answers were exchanged as in previous heavens. there I met and greeted Aaron who said, 'You are welcomed O brother and a Prophet". Then we ascended to the 6th heaven and again the same questions and answers were exchanged as in the previous heavens. There I met and greeted Moses who said, 'You are welcomed O brother and. a Prophet.' When I proceeded on, he started weeping and on being asked why he was weeping, he said, 'O Lord! Followers of this youth who was sent after me will enter Paradise in greater number than my followers.' Then we ascended to the seventh heaven and again the same questions and answers were exchanged as in the previous heavens. There I met and greeted Abraham who said, 'You are welcomed o son and a Prophet.' Then I was shown Al-Bait-al-Ma'mur (i.e. Allah's House). I asked Gabriel about it and he said, This is Al Bait-ul-Ma'mur where 70,000 angels perform prayers daily and when they leave they never return to it (but always a fresh batch comes into it daily).' Then I was shown Sidrat-ul-Muntaha (i.e. a tree in the seventh heaven) and I saw its Nabk fruits which resembled the clay jugs of Hajr (i.e. a town in Arabia), and its leaves were like the ears of elephants, and four rivers originated at its root, two of them were apparent and two were hidden. I asked Gabriel about those rivers and he said, 'The two hidden rivers are in Paradise, and the apparent ones are the Nile and the Euphrates.' Then fifty prayers were enjoined on me. I descended till I met Moses who asked me, 'What have you done?' I said, 'Fifty prayers have been enjoined on me.' He said, 'I know the people better than you, because I had the hardest experience to bring Bani Israel to obedience. Your followers cannot put up with such obligation. So, return to your Lord and request Him (to reduce the number of prayers.' I returned and requested Allah (for reduction) and He made it forty. I returned and (met Moses) and had a similar discussion, and then returned again to Allah for reduction and He made it thirty, then twenty, then ten, and then I came to Moses who repeated the same advice. Ultimately Allah reduced it to five. When I came to Moses again, he said, 'What have you done?' I said, 'Allah has made it five only.' He repeated the same advice but I said that I surrendered (to Allah's Final Order)'" Allah's Apostle was addressed by Allah, "I have decreed My Obligation and have reduced the burden on My slaves, and I shall reward a single good deed as if it were ten good deeds." (Book #54, Hadith #429) Al Bukhari.

The prophet’s seeing of the messengers in the realms above
077.011 And when the messengers are appointed a time. 077.012 For what Day are these deferred. 077.013 For the Day of Decision.
037.079 Peace and salutation on Nuh in the Worlds.
037.142 Then the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy.
037.143 But had it not been that he was of those who glorify.
037.144 He would have remained inside its belly to the day when they are raised.
019.056 And mention in the Book Idris; surely he was a truthful man, a prophet.
019.057 And We raised him to a high place.
004.125 And who is better in religion than he who submitted his face to Allah, while doing good, and followed the faith of Ibrahim, the true one, and Allah took Ibrahim as a close friend. 004.126 And whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is Allah's; and Allah encompasses all things.
017.055 And your Lord best knows those who are in the heavens and the earth; and We have favored some of the prophets over others, and to David We gave the Psalms.
002.253 Those messengers We have preferred some of them over others, among them are they to whom Allah spoke, and others He raised to degrees, to Jesus the son of Mary We gave clear signs, and strengthened him with the holy spirit. And if Allah had pleased, those after them would not have fought each other after clear arguments had come to them, but they differed; so there were some of them who believed and others who denied; and if Allah had pleased they would not have fought one with another, but Allah brings about what He intends.
004.157 And their saying: we have killed the Messiah, Isa son of Mariam, the messenger of Allah, and they did not kill him nor did they crucify him, but it appeared to them so, and most surely those who differ therein are only in a doubt about it; they have no knowledge respecting it, but only follow a conjecture, and they killed him not for sure.
004.158 But Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah was Mighty, Wise.
004.159 And there is none of the People of the Book but must believe in him before his death; and on the Day of Judgment he shall be a witness unto them.
007.172 And when your Lord drew forth from the children of Adam - from their backs - their descendants, and made them bear witness against their own souls Am I not your Lord, they said yes we bear witness, lest you should say on the day of resurrection of this we were unaware.
003.081 When Allah took the covenant of the prophets, for that I have given you of Book and Wisdom then comes to you a messenger confirming what is with you, you shall believe in him and shall aid him, He said do you affirm and take this my Covenant as binding on you They said We do affirm, He said then bear witness and I am with you among the witnesses.
033.007 And when We took the covenant from the prophets and from you, and from Nuh and Ibrahim and Musa and Isa son of Mariam, and We took from them a strong covenant.
016.089 And on the day We shall raise in every nation a witness unto them from among themselves and bring you as a witness unto these, and We have sent down to you the Book explaining all things and a guidance and mercy and good tidings for those who have surrendered.
017.021 See how We have preferred some of them to others, and certainly the hereafter is greater in degrees and greater in preferment.
003.169 And reckon not those who are killed for Allah's way as dead but are living, with their Lord they have provision.
002.154 And do not say of those who died for the cause of Allah they are dead, no but are alive but you do not feel.
019.093 There is none in the heavens and the earth but will come to the Beneficent as a servant.
019.094 He has calculated them and has counted them counting.
019.095 And every one of them will come to Him on the day of resurrection individual.
039.068 And the trumpet shall be blown stunning those who are in the skies and in the earth save whom Allah wishes then it shall be blown again where they shall be up, looking.
039.069 And the earth shall shine with the light of its Lord and the Book shall be laid down, and the prophets and the martyrs (or witnesses) shall be brought forward, and judgment shall be given between them with justice, and they shall not be wronged.
039.070 And every soul shall be paid back fully what it has done, and He knows best what they do.
