The Keys to the Chapters of the Holy Quran

Opening Letters

The Keys to the Chapters

This is a research about the letters at the beginning of some of the chapters of the Quran. I found the meaning of these letters in words, in the verses that follow those letters and in the chapter in general. They are keys to the chapters, by God’s will.

I searched in “Quran interpretation books” for a meaning to HM, ASK. When I asked I was told that the olden scholars have said that this is knowledge of the unseen, which no one knows save Allah. Some said that it is prohibited to interpret these letters in other than what the old scholars interpreted them, and that one should turn away from thinking or saying other than what they have said regarding them. I even heard a warning on a program on Qatar radio, from the previous Azhar chairman regarding delving into matters related to the unseen, and that the olden scholars have issued four verdicts concerning digging into the matters of the unseen, among those matters are the meanings of the opening letters. The first verdict is death penalty, and the last is of the like. That is because the unseen is unexplainable, it should only be believed in as it is. The Azhar chairman backed his verdict up by the verse “Those who believe in the unseen ….. 2:3”.

What about “And nor does he withhold the unseen. 81:24”? Anyway, did the olden scholars interpret those letters? And did they rule out that their interpretation is the final interpretation that accepts no dispute? Or did they prohibit further attempts to unveil the secrets of those letters?

But Al Azhar who “Seriously” warns of dealing with the matters of the unseen among which are the opening letters, authorized a writer who returns the opening letters to their Hieroglyphic origin, and that prophet Abraham was King Ikhnaton. The commercial was posted for a long time on Islam Online website.

TSM is not a talisman whose solving is prohibited, I searched for the link between those letters and what follows them of verses and meanings in their chapters, assured that:

075.016     Do not move your tongue with it to hasten with it.

075.017     It is for Us to collect it and to recite it.

075.018     Therefore when We recite it, follow its recitation.

075.019     Then, upon Us is the explaining of it.

And I went back to the “Arabic Arabic Quran Interpretation Books” searching for a meaning to HM (Ha Meem), ASQ (Ain Seen Qaf) close to following:

HM, (Two letters pronounced Ha Meem)

H, pronounced Ha for: Truth (Haq)

M, Meem: Manifest (Mubeen)

ASQ, (Ain Seen Qaf) A for: Mind (Aql) S: Hearing (Samaa) Q: Heart (Qalb)

And the verse that follows: Thus does He inspire to you and to those before you, Allah the Mighty the Wise.

Yet I say God knows best, even though I am filled with Awe every time I pass by them.

After five years of inquiring from the many owned “Islamic authorities”, I am still given deaf ears or turned toward the verdicts of the olden scholars, and denied an example of how they interpreted those letters to compare with my interpretation.

Chapter 19, Mariam (Mary)

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

019.001   KHYAS, (Kaf  Ha Ya Ain Sad)

K: (Kullan) All

H: (Hadayna) We Guided

Y: (John) Yahya

A: (Aesa) Jesus

S: (Siddiqin) And the truthful (19:41-56)

All We guided (6:48)

019.002     A mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zakariya. (Guidance and Mercy)

019.012     O Yahya take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child.

019.030      He said (Jesus): I am a servant of Allah; He has given me the Book and made me a prophet;

019.041     And mention in the Book Ibrahim; he was a truthful man, a prophet.

019.058   These are they on whom Allah bestowed favors, from among the prophets of the seed of Adam, and of those whom We carried with Nuh, and of the seed of Ibrahim and Israel, and of those whom We guided and chose; when the communications of the Beneficent were recited to them, they fell down in prostrate and weeping.

Mary’s chapter starts with Yahya’s story, then Jesus, then the truthful from Abraham to Idris, Allah’s peace and mercy be upon them. And after that the verse: These are they on whom Allah bestowed favors …………… and of those whom We guided and chose …………… .

Chapter 36 YS (YaSeen)

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

036.001   YS, YaSeen.

Y (Ya): (Yohyee) Revives

S (Seen): (Al Samee’n) The Hearers

036.002     By the wise Qur'an,

036.006     That you may warn a people whose fathers were not warned therefore they are heedless.

036.011     You only warn him who followed the reminder ……

036.012    Surely We are Who bring the dead to life, and We write down what they have sent before and their footprints ………..

036.046      And there comes not to them a sign of the signs of their Lord but they turn aside from it.

036.069     ……… it is nothing but a reminder and a manifest Quran,

036.070       That it may warn him who is alive, and that the word may prove true against the unbelievers.

The Quran is life for the hearers, the difference between life and death is but as the difference between hearing the signs of truth and being unmindful of them.

Chapter 42 Al-Shura (The Council)

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

042.001     HM (HaMeem)

H, Ha for: (Haq) Truth

042.002     ASQ, (Ain Seen Qaf)

A (Ain): (Aql) Mind.

S (Samaa) Hearing

Q (Qalb) Heart

042.003     Thus does He inspire to you, and to those before you, Allah the Mighty the Wise.

042.004    His is what is in the heavens and what is in the earth, and He is the High, the Great.

042.007     And thus have We inspired to you an Arabic Quran, to warn ………

042.051       It was not for a human that Allah should speak to him except by inspiration, or from behind a veil, or He sends a messenger to reveal, with His permission, what He wills: for He is Most High, Most Wise.
042.052      And thus did We reveal to you a Spirit of Our command. You did not know what the Book was, nor the faith, but We made it a light, whereby We guide whom We wish of Our bondmen and verily you guide to a right path.

042.053     The path of Allah, unto Whom belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth, surely to Allah do all affairs eventually come.

034.050     Say: If I stray, I only stray against my own soul, but if I receive guidance, it is by what my Lord inspires to me, He is Hearing, Near.

032.009     Then He fashioned him and breathed into him of His Spirit, and made for you the hearing and the sights and the hearts, you rarely give thanks.

Inspiration is Manifest Truth and Spirit descending on the mind, hearing and heart, and thus does Allah inspire you and those before you the Mighty the Wise.

And Manifest truth refers to the Holy Quran, for the verses that follow are: The descending of the Book.

Manifest Truth appeared only twice in the Holy Quran:

Chapter, The Light:

024.025    On the day Allah will pay back to them in full their just due, and they shall know that Allah is the Manifest Truth.

045.002     A Book its signs explained an Arabic Quran for people who know

045.006    These are the signs of Allah which We recite to you in truth; then in what talk would they believe after Allah and His signs?

045.025       And when Our clear signs are recited to them …..

Chapter 46 Al Ahqaf (The Dunes)

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

029.002     Verily We have descended to you the Book in Truth, therefore serve Allah, being sincere to Him in religion.

Chapter 20 Ta-Ha

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

020.001    TH, (TaHa).

T (Ta): (Ta’ah) Obedience

H (Ha): (Hoda) Guidance

020.002      We have not sent down the Quran to you that you may be distressed.

020.003      But a reminder to him who fears.

020.050      He said, our Lord is Who gave everything its creation, then guided.

020.082       And verily I am forgiving toward him who repented and did good then was guided.

020.135       Say: Everyone is awaiting, therefore wait; So you will come to know who are the followers of the even path and who was guided.

026.002     Those are the signs of the Manifest Book

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

027.001    TS (TaSeen) Ta: (Ta’ah) Obedience And Ha: (Hoda) Guidance, those are the signs of the Quran and a Manifest Book.

027.013    But when Our seeing (visible, clear) signs came to them, they said: This is manifest magic.

027.079      Therefore rely on Allah; you are on the Manifest Truth.

027.080      Surely you do not make the dead to hear, and you do not make the deaf to hear the call when they turn back retreating.

027.081     Nor can you be a guide to the blind out of their straying; you can only make to bear those who believe in Our signs, so they have surrenderd.

068.048      So wait patiently for the judgment of your Lord, and be not like the companion of the fish, when he cried while he was in distress.

068.049      Were it not Grace from his Lord had reached him, he would have been cast down upon the naked wilderness while he was reprobate.

038.004       And they wondered that there has come to them a warner from among themselves, and the disbelievers said: This is a sorcerer, a liar.

038.017       Bear patiently what they say, and remember Our servant Dawood (David), the man of might, he was ever turning in repentance.

038.020    And We strengthened his dominion and We gave him wisdom and a decisive judgment.

038.030       And We gave to Dawood (David) Sulaiman (Solomon), a most excellent servant, he was ever turning in repentance.

038.032       Then he said: Surely I preferred the love of good things to the remembrance of my Lord, until it was hidden in the veil (the sun, hid in the veil of the night, for he had missed Asr prayer).

038.041     And mention Our bondman Ayyub (Job), when he called upon his Lord: The Shaitan (Satan) has afflicted me with toil and torment.

038.044       And take in your hand a little grass, and do not break your oath; surely We found him patient; a most excellent servant, he was frequent m returning (to Allah).

038.045     And mention Our servants Ibrahim (Abraham) and Ishaq (Isaac) and Yaqoub (Jacob), men of might and insight.

038.046      Surely We chose to bestow upon them the pure quality, remembrance of the Home (the Hereafter).

038.082      He said: Then by Your Might I shall beguile them all.

038.083      Except Your servants from among them, the chosen (or purified or loyal) ones.
